Regardless of the problem, we'd like to help you find what you're looking for. I'd like to preface this by saying I haven't tested positive for anything yet so I'm unsure what kind of autoimmune disease I have, but my Rheumatologist still wants me to start on a super low dose of Plaquenil (200mg daily) to see if my symptoms improve.

People with autoimmune conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis RA and lupus, can experience hair loss as a troubling symptom of their disease. Other times though, the cause of the shedding locks could be the medications used to treat arthritis. Fortunately, hair loss from arthritis medications is not a widespread complication. I read that hair loss can be a side effect but the literature on RX from CVS says that's a "more serious" side effect and I should contact my doctor. However, it seems like there are a lot of posts on here and elsewhere about people losing hair because of Plaquenil. Although hair loss may seem like a more prominent problem in men, women are nearly as likely to lose, or have thinning, hair. Most women notice it in their 50s or 60s, but it can happen at any age.

She gave me a Plaquenil pamphlet that mentioned hair bleaching, and I imagined it to be kind of nice like how people who spend time in the sun & pool get naturally lightened hair. If I see any improvements then she wants me to stay on it for life.

I saw my rheumatologist yesterday, and he said the hair loss could be from taking Plaquenil. But he said it could be from getting older. Well, the hair loss started happening about six months after I began taking the Plaquenil and over a few months I lost 40% of my hair. So it is my opinion that the hair loss cause wasn't old age but the Plaquenil. Plaquenil hair loss nioxin review. and some people can handle their symptoms without medication. I originally went in to my primary doctor with what I thought. Plaquenil can change the pigmentation in the skin, so it would stand to reason that it can do the same with hair. I have experienced the change in pigmentation on my legs. It looks like I have a huge bruise on the back of my leg which extends from the calf to the ankle. I call it a perma-bruise.
