    Prednisone and plaquenil pregnancy

I have had horrible trouble every time I taper prednisone and have had to go down 1mg per week or two. BTW I saw the post on hair loss and I also have significant bald patches on temples and thickening itchy scalp by them. Hugs to all the lupies tonight, Jessi Yes, if the plaquenil controls your Lupus flares, it is best to not use the prednisone. But this time I have been able to go from 15 to 12.5 for 2-3 days then down to 10mg in another 2-3 days!!!! I hope you can get off of it completely, or at least take a small maintenance dose.

Hi, I'm new to posting here. I have lupus, and I had my daughter in Feb. 05. I have never taken plaquenil as I have a seizure disorder as well, however, I do know that my Rheumy told me that the only safe drug to take during pregnancy is prednisone. Sep 12, 2008 Now that I think of it my rheumy kept me on a low dose of prednisone-I think it was only 10mg during the pregnancy to kind of "make up" for the plaquenil and I didn't have any problems at all. Actually, I went into remission and I decided to stay pregnant and ended up having four children all in 5 yrs b/c pregnancy was so good for me but this. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil and prednisone are considered safe during pregnancy. Methotrexate and cyclophosphamide Cytoxan should not be used in pregnancy and should be discontinued for at least a month prior to getting pregnant. Ask your doctor to help you weigh the benefits and risks all your medications.

It's a good sign that your inflammation is going down. Also, I have had a rash on my chest for years and it is suddenly a lot better--alot. Take it very slow, tapering off, and if you have a reaction, severe fatigue, etc, talk to your doc, about tapering down even slower.

Mar 31, 2017 Steroids are used to prevent and treat lupus flares. Prednisone is considered the safest corticosteroid to use during pregnancy because only very small amounts cross the placenta. If you took steroids to control lupus before you became pregnant, it's likely that your provider will suggest you continue, but she may reduce the dose. For example a medication called Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is not associated with baby deformities, may allow you to be on a lower dose of prednisone while it wont have any effect on your fertility. Women must be warned about the possible risk to the fetus and cautioned to use adequate birth control. Women wishing to become pregnant must take cholestyramine 8gm 3 times daily for 11 days and then have two leflunomide metabolite levels drawn 14 days apart to document serum concentration less than 0.02mg/L.
